Scott Weinhold

Scott Weinhold is driven by his passion for music and pursuit of new challenges. His Bachelor of Science in Music Education is from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, and he holds a Masters in Music in Saxophone Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He also attended Indiana University in pursuit of a graduate degree in Jazz.

In 2023, Scott retired after serving more than 22 years in The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own”. He is now the Associate Band Director at McLean High School where he co-teaches the bands and runs the jazz program. Scott began working at McLean High School part-time in 2003 when he took over the jazz ensemble from its previous director. 

In 2001 Scott won his position with The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” (TUSAB) and enlisted in the US Army. During his service with TUSAB, he had the privilege of performing on saxophone, flute, and clarinet across various ensembles, including the Ceremonial Band, the Concert Band, Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, and the Army’s premier Pop Group, Down Range. His performances supported the leadership of the United States, encompassing all branches of government, the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington. He played at prestigious venues throughout the Washington DC area, the United States, and internationally. The highlight of his performing career was performing for troops during the Iraq war while participating in three USO tours across Kuwait, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Iraq

In 2012 Scott was the producer for a historic series of concerts with the Central Military Band of the People’s Liberation Army entitled “Friendship and Cooperation Through Music” in Beijing, Nanjing, and Shanghai China. He was also the producer of the band’s participation and international tattoo in Oslo, Norway that same year.

In 2015 he left playing full-time to become the TUSAB Senior Produce. As Senior Producer he produced complex and large-scale live events annually, which supported outreach efforts for the American public in support of the mission of The Military District of Washington. 

He was the Primary LNO for TUSAB with senior leadership and outside entities to coordinate all aspects of its involvement in events and operations resourcing musical and technical  support. Those events included the National Easter Sunrise Service, the Army 10 miler, National Memorial Day, National Veterans Day, Pageant of Peace, National Menorah Lighting, AUSA annual convention, Army Birthday Celebrations in Times Square, Defenders’ Day and many concerts on the National Mall. 

Scott finished his career at the rank of Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted rank possible, and was the Element Leader for the Support Element of TUSAB, leading and managing  a team of forty Soldiers with responsible for the areas of Operations, Human Resources, Technical Support, Library and Arranging, Resources Management, Logistics, Transportation, Public Affairs and Social Media, and Information Management.

Prior to his service, Scott started his career touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra right out of school in 1995. After a year on the road, he taught music for Cincinnati Public Schools and at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and was very active as a freelance musician. The road called Scott back and he began working for Seabourn Cruise Lines, working on ships in Europe and the Mediterranean.  Between 2000 and 2001, Scott performed on the road with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and played for the traveling Broadway production of the show Chicago.

In his spare time, Scott enjoys trail running, riding his bike, hiking, good food, and traveling.  He remains a sought-after performer for events in DC-area venues and continues to entertain at both public and private engagements.  He resides in Arlington, VA with his wife Carna and their dog Roscoe.
